New Year, New You: Tips for Busy Moms
Being healthy is one of my goals for 2020. In fact, it's a goal every year. Sometimes it's a daily goal I have to add to my to-do list. For busy moms like me, it's hard to keep my health top of mind with all that we have going on.
Here's a few tips to keep you healthy this new year:
1. Write it down/Plug it in
As busy moms with busy schedules, we're used to writing in our calendar or date book. It's how we remember carpools and kids' appointments so add taking our vitamins to the calendar. If it's hard to get the daily required fluid intake, write that in, too. I have a hard enough time remembering piano recitals so putting my spin class schedule in is important so I don't forget.
2. Multitask
I feel my best when I exercise for at least 30 minutes a day. Do your kids have sports or musical instrument practice? Take that time to walk around the closest park or around the block while you wait. Do you go away on business trips? Make sure you book a hotel with a fitness center so you can stay on track.
3. Find a meal plan that works
If cooking or meal-prepping is your thing, cool. If you're like me and need to lose some weight and need a bit more support, look at some of the weight-loss programs out there. I started Jenny Craig March of 2017 and have lost over 50 pounds. The food is amazing and with daily activity, it fits into my busy life not the other way around.
4. Do it together
The family that works out together stays healthy together. There are so many benefits to maintaining good health at any age. From decreasing risks of diabetes and high cholesterol to lowering blood pressure and stress, keeping active and eating a healthy diet is important to your household.
5. Reward yourself
Not all benefits are physical. Whether you are trying to lose weight or just remain healthy, maintaining a balanced diet and daily activity helps maintain a positive mental outlook and promotes positive self-esteem. I try to build rewards into our health plan. Maybe a massage or new shoes move you. Maybe a day trip around town is fun for you. Whatever works to motivate you and reward your hard work, do it. This will help keep you focused on your goals.
Be good to yourself this year. Remember life is good and try to maintain a daily schedule of good health. Keep a regimen of a well-balanced meal plan and daily fitness. Work hard and reward yourself. You got this, mamas!
Disclaimer * Avg. weight loss on Jenny Craig is 1-2 lbs/week for members following the program.
