Polynesia:
Covers a vast region of small islands in the Pacific, known for their rich culture and heritage. The Polynesian culture has many unique and beautiful traditions that keep their culture alive today! One of the most notable cultural highlights is traditional Polynesian dancing. Each traditional dance is unique to its island! The Hula from Hawaii, the Siva from Samoa, and Tahitian dancing to name a few. Each type of Polynesian dancing includes graceful hand movements and rhythmic hip swaying to traditional Polynesian music. Some dances include chanting and storytelling that convey Polynesian heritage. Another notable aspect of Polynesian dancing is the vibrant traditional clothing worn. This element also varies from island to island but can include colorful sarongs, grass skirts, leis, and ornate headpieces!
India:
A beautifully rich and diverse country in Southeast Asia! India is the birthplace of many beautiful cultural traditions. India is well known for having beautiful national festivals that are important to their culture and religion. One of the most popular and widely celebrated festivals is Diwali! This holiday falls in either October or November according to the lunar calendar. Diwali is so significant because signifies the victory of light over darkness, good over evil, and knowledge over ignorance. To celebrate this holiday, there is a festival of lights! Families will illuminate their homes and surroundings with oil lamps and decorative lights. During this time of celebration gifts and sweets are often exchanged along with religious ceremonies and prayers. This is truly a beautiful festival bringing light and joy every year.
Mexico:
Mexico has a diverse and vibrant cultural heritage blending indigenous, European (primarily Spanish), and African influences. This fusion is evident in various aspects, such as art, music, dance, architecture, folklore, and cuisine. One beautiful aspect of Mexicos culture is its traditional music from Mariachi to Ranchera, folk, and bolero. One of the most well-known genres of Traditional music in Mexico is Mariachi! Mariachi music is synonymous with Mexican culture. It features a combination of violins, trumpets, guitars, and vihuelas (a small guitar-like instrument). Mariachi bands often wear traditional charro outfits and perform lively and emotional songs.
Korea:
Korea is a beautiful country, rich with heritage, culture, and natural beauty! One cultural highlight truly makes Korea an innovative and unique country. That is Traditioal Korean architecture. One iconic attribute of Korean architecture is the curved tile roof and traditional Korean homes (Hanaks). Their architecture has a deep connection to their culture and spirituality. The construction of Hanaoks has a deeper meaning than just architecture, what is most important is the physical and visual harmony of the Hanok within nature. Traditional Korean architecture is truly unique and beautiful.
Vietnam:
Located in southeast Asia, Vietnam is known for its rich cultural heritage and beauty. One characteristic that makes Vietnam stand out is its cuisine. Their Cuisine varies based on region, but traditional Vietnamese cuisine is characterized by its light, fresh and herbaceous notes. The main flavor elements in most Vietnamese dishes are palm sugar, chili, mint, coriander, fish sauce, salt, pepper, shrimp paste, coconut, and cinnamon! Along with its delicious cuisine, Vietnam is also very well known for its Vietnamese coffee! This is a delicious combination of Strong brewed coffee and condensed milk served over ice! These are just a few flavors that makeup Vietnam and their beautiful culture.
Puerto Rico:
Puerto Rico, a Caribbean island and unincorporated territory of the United States, has a rich and unique cultural heritage. Puerto Rico is Unique in the sense that there is a lot of Spanish and African influence integrated into the culture. One of the most notable highlights of puerto rico is the traditional cultural art. This is shown in murals, street art, and architecture throughout puerto rico. With a cultural heritage dating back 500+ years, Puerto Rico is known for having beautifully influenced art! This continues to be a large part of their culture.
